About our company
Based at Washdyke, Timaru, Gordon Handy Machinery Ltd has an extensive range of agricultural products.
The company is recognised for the high standard of machinery and service it provides and proud of the excellent relationship it has built with the community over the past two decades.
The company was established in November 1979, from a small beginning under the guidance of Gordon Handy, Tom Handy and Dick Edwards. The company expanded and now employs 13 staff members covering sales, service, parts and administration.
In 1985 the company saw some major changes with Dick Edwards selling his shareholding, a company name change followed, expansion to its premises and consolidation with Gordon taking over as principal shareholder.
In 1993 the company expanded its premises again to incorporate a new showroom and larger workshop. In the same year John Deere launched the highly innovative 6000/7000 Series Tractors which have proved to be leaders in their field in agricultural machinery. With this new series of tractors sales grew extensively to put John Deere as a major player in farm machinery in South Canterbury and North Otago.
In 1995 the company was fortunate to acquire the Hardi Sprayer franchise that over the years has proved to be very successful. The Danish built sprayer are of the same high quality as our company is accustomed to. Our continued sales and backup of these units has enabled us to be recognised as one of Hardi's largest New Zealand dealers.
Gordon's philosophy is simple, service backup. As Gordon says you can have the best equipment in the world but without service backup the equipment is worth nothing. Our service backup is built around a team of fully trained service technicians who attend regular service schools in both Australia and New Zealand. Backing the team is a comprehensive spare parts department, specialising in, but not limited to John Deere. We stock a full range of spares for all the most popular models.
In 2007 Gordon Handy expanded once again with the acquisition of the Agrimech business based in Blenheim. This added four new branches to the Group in Blenheim, Nelson, Kaikoura and Greymouth. This new network of 6 branches ensures parts stock can be maximized and we can deliver and move stock swiftly between branches and in addition we can utilize our service expertise in any given area of the company around the area we look after.
The increased size of the dealership also allows us to order more tractors for stock to endeavour to supply the product our customers require at the time suitable to them.
During the last 20 years Gordon Handy has benefited from South Canterbury and North Otago with extensive market share support from John Deere quality products and value the confidence the farming community have given him.
We are proud of our past and look forward to the ever changing future.
